THE 'KIDPOWER FOR ALL' CAMPAIGN
Many people, when they first learn of our services, are a little indignant and say, "These skills are so important and yet I never heard of you before! KIDPOWER should be for ALL people!"
This often-repeated comment is the inspiration for our KIDPOWER for ALL Campaign. Our goals are to create safety, build confidence and help our communities become more peaceful places through giving everyone the opportunity to learn to protect themselves and their loved ones from emotional and physical violence and abuse.
If KIDPOWER has made your life better in any way, please take a few minutes
to read the information below and consider what role you could play in helping
us make a similar difference in the lives of others. The community support of
thousands like you, offered in the form of conversations with friends about
KIDPOWER, volunteer time, donated space, financial contributions, community
bridge-building, and the commitment to train as instructors who bring these
skills to others, has provided the foundation necessary to reach out to you
and others -- one million people around the world! -- while upholding our commitment
never to turn people away for lack of money. We have also helped many thousands
more through our collaborations with other agencies. For example, the national
Youth Education Services of the New Zealand Police is implementing the teaching
of KIDPOWER skills nationwide in public schools through our collaborative Confident
Kids programme.
Has KIDPOWER helped you in any way? If so, here are simple steps you can take to help us help others and play a valuable role in KIDPOWER's efforts to make our communities safer for years to come:
- MAKE A DONATION. This can be done directly (by cheque or internet banking to bank account number 03-0703-044800400-00) either as a lump sum or as regular charges on your credit card; it can frequently be doubled or tripled by matching grants from many corporate employers.
- VOLUNTEER. By joining our fundraising committee or helping to organise workshops, you can help us reduce our already low administrative costs while helping to bring in more resources.
- INVITE A KIDPOWER SPEAKER to your service club or your company's Brown Bag Lunch programme. Coordinate a workshop for your business's Take Your Child to Work Day.
- MAKE KIDPOWER THE BENEFICIARY OF YOUR COMPANY'S HOLIDAY PARTY. Partygoers can make donations of any size in lieu of giving gifts. Together, they will give a gift that has a lifelong impact.
- BUILD BRIDGES. Make a commitment to tell the people you talk with every day about KIDPOWER and what you think it offers. Tell your co-worker, your doctor, your dentist, your next door neighbour, the scout troop leader, your friend who teaches special education. Recommend KIDPOWER on your own email list.
- TALK TO PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE WHO GIVE MONEY TO GROUPS DOING VALUABLE WORK IN THEIR COMMUNITY. Encourage them to consider including KIDPOWER in their community giving plans. Set up a meeting with them and someone from KIDPOWER.
- INCLUDE KIDPOWER IN YOUR WILL.
- CONSIDER BECOMING AN INSTRUCTOR! Our instructors come from all walks
of life. They are teachers, computer experts, stay-at-home parents, police
officers, small business owners... Some teach just a few times a year; others
teach classes just for children or just for adults.... We welcome anyone who
shares our vision, goals, and values and is able to uphold them. More information
here.
We at KIDPOWER consider our work to be a team effort; we strive to meet the needs of the communities we serve, and in turn we rely on community support in order to be effective. We are deeply grateful for your willingness to help us reach more people so that we truly become KIDPOWER for ALL -- ALL ages, ALL abilities, and ALL people in need.
